# merbil.fm

My YouTube channel of Turkish monologues on tech, modern life and adulthood, made on a low effort, high context rule.

merbil.fm is my YouTube channel, where I record Turkish monologues about tech, modern life and the burdens of adulthood. I filmed the first episode in July 2026, after thinking about it for 11 years, so the title of that first video wasn't clickbait at all.

The story goes back to around 2014 and 2015, when I discovered podcasts and thought this was probably the future. I even bought a cheap lavalier mic back then, and it's still sitting in a drawer, untested.

Then I spent years thinking about formats, from a small solo media outlet to vlogs and talk shows, and almost ten years just deciding between Turkish and English.

Eventually I went with Turkish, and with a format I kept seeing on English YouTube, called low effort, high context. That means no heavy editing, no jump cuts and no fancy studio, just a person telling you what's on their mind. My rule is simple, I never spend more time editing a video than recording it.

I imagine the channel like a personal blog from the 2000s. One week it's a new band I found or a concert I went to, and the next it's Pokémon cards, games, or whatever I keep thinking about lately, like what being an adult is supposed to feel like.

So it's basically what's on my mind these days, recorded and put out there. I'm doing it for myself first, and the no-editing rule is there because I already burned out once, on my old newsletter, when a hobby turned into a job. If you'd rather read than watch, the [written versions](/posts/) are here on the site, in English.
